Everything you should know about U-Mask's certifications

U-Mask is compliant to the EN14683 standard, the only standard which takes into account BFE (Bacteria Filtration Efficiency), because it is the closest to our performance needs (to protect the user and those around them from contagion).
The FFP EN 149 standard was created for masks to protect the user from gases and particles in a professional setting and not from microbial strains, which behave in a different way.
The reason why FPP2-3/N95-99 are recommended during the pandemic is based on the assumption that the seal on the face is so tight (created for gaseous and high fine particle concentrations) that it will prevent the virus from passing.
In the study performed to test for BFE, as required for the EN14683 standard, we were able to perform the same test on a FFP2 mask and the results showed an unexpectedly low performance with bacteria and virus particles passing through the layers and onto the agar plate. The report (which can be read here) notes that the U-Mask achieved a comparable performance equivalence to the FFP3/N99 masks for protection from microorganisms (not for professional use such as welding, etc., which is why the FFP3 mask was initially created).
Effectiveness on viruses
We have recently performed the same testing with the H1N1 virus (not applicable in any standard) releasing the same results as the BFE test, which we will publish in November.
New technologies need to be tested in different ways and often rely on standards not applicable to the status quo.
